GOP Presidential Candidate Mike Huckabee Won’t Rule Out Using Troops To Stop Abortion

Mike Huckabee

Taking the Republican war on women to a startling new extreme, GOP presidential candidate Mike Huckabee said this week that he is open to the idea of deploying federal troops and the FBI to stop women from having abortions.

At a series of campaign events across Iowa, the former Arkansas governor said he would violate a landmark supreme court ruling to accomplish his goal of ending abortion.

“I will not pretend there is nothing we can do to stop this,” Huckabee, an outspoken social conservative, said Thursday at a campaign stop in Jefferson, Iowa.

Stating his belief that the Supreme Court is wrong — and that the Constitution protects unborn fetuses — Huckabee said that he would “invoke the 5th and 14th Amendments for the protection of every human being.” The Fifth Amendment protects against trial without jury and ensures the due process of law; the 14th addresses citizenship and the rights of citizens.

This suggests that, as president, Huckabee would defy the Supreme Court’s 1973 ruling in Roe v. Wade and unilaterally make all abortion illegal by giving fetuses full rights as citizens.

Huckabee addressed abortion again at his next stop in Rockwell City, Iowa, where Rolling Stone reporter Matt Taibbi asked him whether stopping abortion would mean using federal troops or the FBI.

“We’ll see if I get to be president,” Huckabee said, according to the Topeka Capital-Journal.

So there you have it. A presidential candidate is actually proposing a literal, real, armed war on American women. Even worse? Not a single one of Huckabee’s Republican colleagues has disagreed with his proposal.
